Boutique support services company lands at No. 13 in Best Places to Work by Crain’s Detroit Business

St. Clair Shores, Mich. For the third consecutive year, Forefront, a privately held, American-owned boutique culinary and support services company, has been named as a Best Places to Work by Crain’s Detroit Business, honoring standout organizations that are defying the talent retention odds, excelling in employee engagement, and offering innovative benefits.

Founded in 2019, Forefront provides dining and nutrition, environmental services, and facility management solutions to clients in the senior living, healthcare, education, and government sectors.

“Being recognized for the third year in a row is a tremendous honor. This achievement reflects our team’s unwavering commitment to creating a supportive, innovative, and inclusive work environment, starting right here in Southeast Michigan,” said Dan Bowen, Co-Founder and CEO of Forefront. “At Forefront, we believe that investing in our people is key to our success, and this recognition underscores the incredible dedication and passion of our entire team. Our goal is to foster a workplace where everyone can thrive and play an active role in driving the growth and development of our communities.”

“Being recognized for the third consecutive year is a testament to the strong culture and supportive environment we have cultivated at Forefront,” said Ryan Williams, Co-Founder and COO of Forefront. “Our commitment to our team members, their growth, and their well-being is at the core of our mission. This recognition reflects the hard work and dedication of every individual at Forefront.”

To compile our 2024 list, Crain’s partnered with Workforce Research Group, which evaluates each registered company’s workplace policies, practices, benefits and demographics. This part of the process is worth approximately 20% of the total evaluation. Afterward, Workforce surveys thousands of employees on their experiences, working conditions, benefits and corporate culture. This part is worth approximately 80% of the total evaluation. Workforce Research Group then analyzed the data, using its expertise to determine the final ranking.

To be considered for participation, companies must:

  • Have at least 15 full- or part-time permanent employees working in Southeast Michigan (Counties: Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw, Ingham, Livingston, Lapeer, Genesee, St. Clair, Monroe, Lenawee, and Jackson.
  • Have a physical operation in Southeast Michigan (Counties: Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw, Ingham, Livingston, Lapeer, Genesee, St. Clair, Monroe, Lenawee, and Jackson.)
  • Be in business for at least one year by the program registration deadline
  • Register and pay an entry fee, which includes an employer assessment, employee feedback survey and access to feedback data dashboard for the entering companies.

Forefront was recognized in 2023 as No. 1 on the Best Places to Work list, and recognized earlier this May as one of Modern Healthcare’s Best Places to Work for the third consecutive year.
